For over fourteen years I have been a professional technical writer, working both in software documentation and as an author of extremely popular computer books. I work in Silicon Valley (408 or 650 area codes).
My qualifications include:
- I have written end user and programmer's guides, Unix system administration manuals, and technical white papers. I have worked with both hard copy and online and understand the writing and production issues concerning both.
- I am comfortable with the entire documentation process, from planning to production. I am an expert in FrameMaker including template design and implementation.
- I have written four books including Teach Yourself HTML and Teach Yourself Java, which have been published in multiple editions, been translated into dozens of languages, and combined have sold over 1.2 million copies.
- I am a technical technical writer. I prefer working on developer or API documentation. I have hands-on programming experience and can develop my own examples.
- I am highly self-sufficient. I would rather compile an application for myself or look around in the code to figure out what something does than pester a busy engineer to explain it to me.
